Concealed Pistol Licenses The process is easier than you think.
Original CPL Applicants
For an ORIGINAL CPL you will be required to obtain a fingerprint card from a 3rd party vendor of your choice. You will need to complete your Permitium application and receive your application tracking number prior to scheduling or obtaining fingerprints.
The Mercer Island Police Department has reviewed the process of Bellevue Fingerprinting Service (BFS) and has found them to be in compliance with our requirements. While we have found the BFS process to be in compliance with ours, you are not required to use their services.
If it is your choice to obtain fingerprint cards from a 3rd party vendor, please understand that any expense to do so will not be reimbursed.
Fingerprinting with Bellevue Fingerprint Service:
- Make an appointment online https://bellevuefingerprintingservice.com. You will need to provide your tracking number
- Bellevue Fingerprinting Service will submit your prints on your behalf and notify us that the print appointment has been completed, which will allow us to proceed with the application process.
If you select a vendor other than BFS, submit your fingerprint card, sealed by the FBI- approved fingerprinting service you chose to the Mercer Island Police Department. Please include your Permitium tracking number along with your application.
General Information
Learning the laws regulating the use of firearms is a must for responsible ownership. Local regulations differ and laws vary from state to state. Citizens must check with the jurisdiction where the firearm is to be used.
In Washington State, law enforcement agencies are required to follow local, state and federal guidelines when performing the necessary background checks for issuing Concealed Pistol Licenses (CPLs). Due to the detailed nature involved in conducting these background checks, processing times can take up to 30 days (up to 60 days for applicants residing out of state). You will be notified when all required background checks have been completed.
If you reside within the city of Mercer Island, or are a resident of another state, you may apply for a CPL at the Mercer Island Police Department.
- If you are applying for a CPL RENEWAL, you may not apply until 90 days prior to the expiration date shown on your current CPL.
- LATE RENEWAL applications will be accepted up to 90 days after the expiration date shown on the current CPL.
- If you are a city of Mercer Island or an out of state resident and your Washington State CPL is lost, stolen or destroyed, you may apply for a REPLACEMENT CPL from the Mercer Island Police Department regardless of where your CPL was originally issued if you are currently a resident in the city of Mercer Island.
